Turtles
Rare or foreign-feeling reptiles in a northern campaign, best used around trade, warm coasts, magic, or imported curiosities.
In the North
Turtles are not a defining Scandinavian animal. They work best as foreign specimens, southern trade curiosities, magical familiars, or creatures of warmer wetlands reached by travel.
Myth and Folklore
Turtles have little place in Norse myth compared with serpents, wolves, ravens, and boars. Their rarity can be useful: a turtle in a Viking hall should make people ask who brought it there and why.
Campaign Use
Use turtles as long-lived omen animals, wizard pets, southern trade goods, or signs that the campaign has crossed into foreign waters.
