Drengr is the campaign's central heroic ideal for the Viking Age educational adventures. It names the values the young heroes are meant to practice and the spirit that binds the defenders of Niðaróss.

The foreword to Fires at the Fjordgate defines drengr through ideals such as courage, dignity, fairness, industriousness, hospitality, self-reliance, discipline, and honesty.
