After the horde took [[campaigns:latitude_history:places:stormroost|Stormroost]], [[campaigns:latitude_history:places:nidaross|Niðaróss]] needed to know how close the enemy had come and what strength remained outside the town. [[campaigns:latitude_history:characters:caleb-gandalfson|Caleb Gandalfson]] was tasked with overseeing a reconnaissance mission, and [[campaigns:latitude_history:characters:mechakirby|MechaKirby]], [[campaigns:latitude_history:characters:fireetta-fjordmist|Fireetta Fjordmist]], [[campaigns:latitude_history:characters:steve|Steve]], and later [[campaigns:latitude_history:characters:kris-stormblade|Kris Stormblade]] and [[campaigns:latitude_history:characters:risar-stormborn|Risar Stormborn]] became part of the effort.

The first danger came before the party reached the fallen dragonborn village. Near [[campaigns:latitude_history:places:nidaross|Niðaróss]], they found goblins speaking with a bugbear. The goblins were not merely wandering after a defeat. They were recruiting, pressuring, or bargaining for help, and the conversation made it clear that the army still wanted allies for larger action against Niðaróss.

The party turned the meeting into a fight and killed both the goblins and the bugbear. Their first instinct was to keep moving and find a safe place to rest rather than search the bodies, a small sign of how uncertain the roads had become. Later, Kris joined and helped defeat more goblins, while Risar entered the story as a dragonborn paladin whose own home had been taken by the horde.

Fireetta and Caleb worked with familiars and spellcraft as the group pushed toward danger: Caleb with his owl, Fireetta with [[campaigns:latitude_history:characters:smoky-the-skvader|Smoky the Skvader]]. [[campaigns:latitude_history:lore:calebs-awakened-spellbook|Caleb's awakened spellbook]] warned caution before approaching a captured village. The warning fit the mission. [[campaigns:latitude_history:places:stormroost|Stormroost]] was no longer just a place on the map. It was proof that [[campaigns:latitude_history:places:nidaross|Niðaróss]] could be next.
