Your family has attained a position of power through hard work, a strong reputation, land, wealth, and a remarkable talent for hospitality. Being near the center of village life means you meet travelers, hear news before most people do, and grow up listening to the stories skalds tell in the hall.
You may not personally rule, and your family's status still depends on custom, reputation, generosity, and the willingness of others to follow. Even so, people expect you to understand local politics, obligations, feasts, gifts, and the quiet pressure that powerful families can bring to bear.
- Skill Proficiencies: involvement in village and regional affairs gave you more knowledge of History than most. Your parents trained you in Deception, believing it necessary when dealing with outsiders, even if only to recognize when outsiders are using it.
- Languages: you have likely been taught to read and write. Choose one additional language with your DM if the campaign is using language proficiencies.
- Equipment: being from a wealthy and powerful family gives you access to a strong selection of equipment. Work with your DM to choose starting equipment that fits your household and balances the lack of a tool proficiency.

In your home village, you have the respect of the people. You have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks made there when invoking your family standing, local obligations, or your known place in the community.
In other Norse communities, you can request an audience with jarls, goðar, or town elders. They will usually grant you a hearing unless you have dishonored their hall or your family's name.
You also have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to levy a modest tax, request tribute, or otherwise call upon local obligations.
