Hearthforge Wandlens

Awarded to Caleb Gandalfson for the adventures of Hallowing the Hearthforge.

Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement by a spellcaster)

A mithral lens set into a delicate, precise wand-socket ring, with tiny dwarven marks around the edge.

Fit the socket. Spend 1 minute fitting or removing the lens from one wand. Its magical benefits require attunement and holding the fitted wand; fitting it does not replace any attunement the wand itself requires.

Precise Focus. The fitted wand serves as an arcane focus. You gain +1 to spell attack rolls made through it. This does not increase damage or spell save DCs. If the wand already grants a bonus to spell attack rolls, use the higher bonus rather than adding them.

Wandcraft Insight. While using the lens, you have advantage on ability checks to study, repair, identify, or craft wands, including applicable tool checks. You also have advantage on the Arcana check made when activating Wand of Wonder to interpret its coming effect. Required tools, materials, time, and proficiencies still apply; this grants no automatic identification or crafting success.

Refract Wonder (1/dawn). When you activate the fitted wand and roll on its random-effect table, you may reroll that table once after seeing the roll and receiving any Arcana clue, but before the effect resolves. You must use the new result. For Wand of Wonder, reroll the d100; the DM interprets the new result using the same Arcana check total and provides its aiming clue before you direct the effect. Do not reroll the Arcana check. This costs no additional action or wand charge. Regain this use at the next dawn, shared across all wands fitted to the lens. It cannot reroll attacks, damage, charge recovery, or destruction checks.
