Amber Storage Items

Amber storage items are magical containers made of amber. The Amber Barrel could store large things but was dangerous enough to trap Fróð Erikson inside for about 300 years. Amber Pouches are smaller, safer versions that store small objects without the person-trapping danger of the barrel.

Fróð Erikson was experimenting with the Amber Barrel in his tower when he discovered its danger the hard way. If someone is touching the Amber Barrel while speaking the absorbing word, the barrel can pull that person inside. Fróð triggered this effect and remained trapped for about three centuries, frozen in time inside the amber.

A group from Þýdal later found the Amber Barrel on an upper floor of Fróð's tower. When they spoke the magic word to empty it, Fróð fell out. In thanks, he gave each party member an Amber Pouch.

The Amber Barrel is a rare wondrous item: a large piece of amber enchanted to store items, objects, and creatures. When the proper magic word is spoken, it absorbs any object or creature smaller than Huge size that is touching it. When the proper but different word is spoken, it expels everything it contains. If the expel word is immediately followed by a short description, only the described item or items are expelled.

While inside the Amber Barrel, any creature is frozen in time. Speaking either the absorb word or the expel word requires an action.

The Amber Barrel can hold up to 500 pounds and no more than 64 cubic feet. It weighs 4 pounds regardless of its contents.

The Amber Barrel cannot be overloaded. If someone attempts to absorb more than it can hold, it refuses the heaviest objects or creatures first, continuing to reject contents until it reaches its maximum capacity. If the amber is broken, it ruptures and is destroyed, and its contents are scattered in the Astral Plane.

An Amber Barrel may safely be placed inside other magical holding devices. It is not affected by travel to other planes.
