It is one of the most useful Viking Age institutions for campaign play because it turns private conflict into public drama. ===== What Happens There ===== * Laws are recited and remembered. * Disputes are heard before witnesses. * Compensation, [[culture:outlaw|outlawry]], or settlement may be declared. * Leaders build support through gifts, speeches, and alliances. * Feuds can be cooled down or made worse. ===== Campaign Use ===== At the table, a þing gives players choices beyond combat. They can gather testimony, expose a lie, call witnesses, negotiate compensation, challenge a bully, win public trust, or accept a costly settlement to prevent bloodshed. ===== Related Pages ===== * [[culture:jarl|Jarl]] * [[culture:gothi|Goði]] * [[culture:holmgang|Hólmganga]] * [[culture:outlaw|Outlawry]] culture/thing.txt Last modified: 2026/07/04 00:55by Seraphina
