Landvættir
Land spirits that guard places, families, farms, coastlines, and regions; often better treated as powers to respect than monsters to kill.
In the North
Landvættir are one of the best ways to make the land itself feel inhabited. They can belong to a hill, waterfall, lava field, grove, harbor, or whole district.
Myth and Folklore
Icelandic tradition treats landvættir as protective spirits of the land. Respecting them preserves luck; offending them can make a place hostile.
Campaign Use
Use landvættir as local powers, patrons, offended guardians, or explanations for why some places must be approached with ritual care.
