The Necklace of Troll Detection is a very rare wondrous item carried by Thorgall Giron. Its gem glows when a troll is nearby.

This necklace has a gem. When a troll is near, the gem glows. The brighter it glows, the nearer or more powerful the troll is.

In Hearthforge, Leif Arrowsong noticed a red glow coming from Thorgall's chest as the party entered the long hallway. The glow became very bright along with the beating of the ritual drums. The party later realized that each drumbeat was bringing Thullgrim closer to waking, as if it were making his heart beat. Because Thullgrim is the mountain and the party was inside him, even the slumbering troll mountain was large and powerful enough to make the necklace glow noticeably. The glow brightened on each drumbeat because Thullgrim's power became more active on those beats.
