Tall, strong, and ginger-haired, Hoffer Magnuson was even tempered and never lost control. He was well liked in [[campaigns:latitude_history:places:thydal|Þýdal]] and acted as its [[culture:jarl|jarl]]. He worked as a mercenary when he was younger, serving as a Varangian guard down south in a large city, but by the years before Þýdal's fall he was a farmer.
He is married to [[campaigns:latitude_history:characters:gunhild-steinarsdottir|Gunhild Steinarsdottir]]. They lived together in the largest [[culture:longhouse|longhouse]] in the village. Hoffer used his mercenary earnings to buy a large amount of land that he farmed, and he paid his friends well to help build the [[culture:longhouse|longhouse]].
