Nixie

Nixie

Water spirits related to the nykr/nøkk tradition: beautiful, dangerous, musical, shapeshifting, and associated with drowning.

In the North

Use nixies in rivers, millponds, waterfalls, and dark lakes. In a Norse campaign, connect them to local water spirits rather than generic tiny fey.

Myth and Folklore

The nix, nøkk, or nykr appears across Germanic and Scandinavian folklore as a water being that may lure people, play music, shapeshift, or drown the unwary.

Campaign Use

Use nixies as tempters, guardians of river crossings, teachers of dangerous songs, or spirits angered by broken water taboos.
