Mountain Lions / Puma / Panther

Not native to Scandinavia, but useful as foreign cats, exaggerated travel tales, or names applied to unfamiliar large predators.

This entry should usually be treated as legendary or imported. Norse travelers, Varangians, traders, and saga-tellers might describe lions, leopards, or panthers badly after hearing secondhand stories.

Because these cats are not a normal Scandinavian creature, their value is in foreignness. A “panther” in a northern saga can signal far travel, Byzantine contact, a magical menagerie, or a misunderstood monster.

Use this creature when the campaign reaches foreign courts, exotic trophies, or rumors that locals interpret through limited vocabulary.
