Hellhounds / Garm

Hellhounds / Garm

Supernatural hounds of fire, death, gates, and pursuit; Garmr is the great hound associated with Hel and Ragnarök.

In the North

Use ordinary hellhounds sparingly in a Norse campaign. They work best as death-hounds, oath-hounds, or underworld guardians rather than generic infernal pets.

Myth and Folklore

Garmr is often described as a great hound connected to Gnipahellir and the events of Ragnarök. He gives northern shape to the idea of a monstrous guardian dog.

Campaign Use

Use hellhounds as guardians of barrows, Hel-touched roads, oathbreakers’ halls, or gates that should not be crossed by the living.
