Fafnir

Fafnir

The dragon of greed from the Sigurd cycle: once a dwarf or dwarf-like being, transformed by cursed treasure and slain by the hero Sigurd.

In the North

Fafnir should usually be treated as a unique legendary example, not a species. Other cursed hoard-wyrms can echo him without being him.

Myth and Folklore

In the Völsung tradition, Fáfnir’s greed and the cursed gold transform him into a dragon. His story makes dragons about moral corruption as much as physical danger.

Campaign Use

Use Fafnir as mythic background, a named legendary dragon, or a template for any NPC consumed by treasure and fear.
