====== Outlawry ======

Outlawry is a legal and social punishment that cuts a person away from protection. An outlaw may be driven from the community, lose property, and become vulnerable to violence that would otherwise be treated as murder or feud-worthy harm.

In a campaign, outlawry should feel severe. It is not just exile. It is the public loss of the shield that law, kin, neighbors, and reputation normally provide.

===== Campaign Use =====

  * A villain has avoided ordinary punishment and must be hunted.
  * An innocent person has been declared outlaw through false testimony.
  * The party must decide whether to shelter someone who has no legal protection.
  * A threatened outlawry creates pressure to accept settlement, compensation, or [[culture:holmgang|hólmganga]].
